Fireworks Safety

Safety is paramount when it comes to handling fireworks. Here’s a detailed guide on how to safely handle and enjoy fireworks purchased from North GA Fireworks.

Before You Start

Legal Check

Ensure that it’s legal to set off fireworks in your area. Follow all local laws and regulations regarding fireworks usage times, locations, and notifications.

Choose a Safe Location

Select an open, flat area away from buildings, dry grass, and other flammable materials. Ensure there are no overhead obstructions such as trees or power lines. When selecting a location remember to notice any nearby animals.

Check the Weather

Avoid windy conditions, as it can make it difficult to control fireworks, increases the risk of accidents, and doesn’t give the best show.

Have Safety Gear

Wear safety glasses and gloves to protect your eyes and hands.

Keep Water Nearby

Have a bucket of water, a garden hose, or a fire extinguisher nearby in case of emergencies. A bucket of sand is handy too.

Handling and Lighting

Read Instructions

Carefully read the instructions and warnings on each firework. Follow the manufacturer’s guidelines.

One at a Time

Only light one firework at a time. Keep others stored safely away from the ignition area.

Use a Stable Surface

Place fireworks on a stable, flat surface. If necessary, use bricks or rocks to stabilize them.

Keep a Safe Distance

After lighting a firework, quickly move to a safe distance. Ensure spectators are also at a safe distance.

No Relighting

Never attempt to relight a “dud” firework. Wait at least 20 minutes, then soak it in water before disposing of it.

Supervision

Children should never handle fireworks. An adult should always be present and in charge of lighting them.

Firework Types

Fountains and Sparklers

Keep these items on the ground and away from flammable materials. Hold sparklers at arm’s length and supervise children closely.

Rockets

Launch rockets from a stable, non-flammable base such as a bottle filled with sand. Aim them away from buildings and spectators.

Roman Candles

Place these in a tube securely fixed in the ground, pointing away from people and structures.

Firecrackers

Only light one firecracker at a time and immediately move away. Never hold them in your hand when lighting.

After the Show

Cleanup

Dispose of used fireworks by soaking them in water and placing them in a metal trash can. Leave the can outside and away from buildings overnight to ensure there are no smoldering embers.

Check for Debris

After the show, check the area for any debris, unexploded fireworks, or fire hazards. Dispose of debris properly.

Keep Pets Indoors

Fireworks can scare pets, so keep them indoors DURING the show to prevent them from running away or getting injured. If you have neighbors with pets, give ’em a shout and let them know you will be shooting off fireworks nearby.

Remember, safety should always be the top priority when handling fireworks. By following these guidelines, you can enjoy a spectacular display while minimizing the risk of accidents or injuries. This isn’t a complete list if safety precautions, see manufacturer information, use videos and resources, and good common sense.
